William Thomas Bacon, IV

William Thomas Bacon, IV, Esquire, graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2004 and has actively focused on worker’s compensation litigation. Tom concentrates in the areas of Serious Injury and Death Claims, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Workers Compensation Claims, Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect, Medical Malpractice, Insurance Claims and Litigation, Premises Liability, Defective and Dangerous Products, School and Education Litigation, and Boating and Water Accidents.

Tom was raised in Augusta, Georgia, graduating High School from Richmond Academy in 1997. Thereafter, Tom attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, graduating in 2001 with degrees in Political Science and History. While at Furman, Tom was a member of the men’s NCAA golf team and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Each summer during college, Tom interned in Washington, D.C., engaged in PAC fundraising for US Senate elections. During those summers, Tom also competed in national amateur golf tournaments.

Tom entered the University of South Carolina School of Law in the Fall of 2001. While at the University of South Carolina School of Law, Tom was active in the student organization, The Palmetto Law Society. During the first summer of Law School and during his second year, Tom clerked for Bruner, Powell, Robins, Wall and Mullins, a firm focused on construction and business litigation, as well as healthcare and commercial transactions. Thereafter, Tom clerked for Collins & Lacy, a firm dedicated to worker’s compensation and general insurance defense.

After graduating from Law School, in August 2004, Tom moved to Charleston, South Carolina and began practice with McAngus, Goudelock and Courie, devoted to worker’s compensation defense. In practice, Tom successfully handled cases before Single Commissioners, the Commission’s Appellate Panel, South Carolina Circuit Court, South Carolina Court of Appeals and South Carolina Supreme Court.

In April, 2012, Tom, along with two other partners, opened and operated the Charleston office of Collins & Lacy. There, Tom’s practice focused exclusively on the defense of worker’s compensation claims representing large and small businesses, insurance companies, and uninsured employers in every stage of the workers’ compensation process, including discovery, hearings, appeals, and mediation. In 2013, Tom was honored as a South Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Star® 2013. During this period, Tom also became involved with Kids Chance, a fundraising organization providing scholarships to children of injured workers.

In 2015, Tom moved to Beaufort, South Carolina and began the practice at The McDougall Law Firm.

Tom’s family consists of his wife, Kelsey, and three daughters Bentley, Spencer, and Sullivan. In his free time, Tom enjoys UGA football, golf, traveling and spending time with his young family.
